1. Agency Fish commissioned me to illustrate these maps to accompany an article for Garuda Indonesia’s inflight magazine, Colours. The textures and background were made with watercolor. Now that I’ve read up on Indonesia; I’d really love to visit. Thanks to Nanda Giftanina for the opportunity!

Edit: Thanks to Nanda Giftanina for the opportunity! The maps were made with watercolors and Photoshop.

  2. Imagine that you are nearly done with your Photoshop file. Your colors are perfect, you’ve tweaked the hue/sat just so, and you’ve even fixed the texture and chosen the best layer blend. You even named all the layers! And you smile in satisfaction and start to type in your name for the watermark. The final touch. And then, because you’ve been so absorbed in your work, your battery runs out and your screen goes blank, taking with it your hopes…and your dreams…

  3. Anonymous asked: What do you use to create shadows? Do you use the pen tool or the brush or simple drop shadow? Your shadows look soft and realistic, I like it! =]

    Thanks!

I use (drum roll please) the trackpad! I just select a soft brush and have at it manually. It’s tedious (especially since I prefer to do so without a tablet) but I’m very picky about details (I hate the drop shadow filter) so I guess it works out for me. :)

  4. Photoshop Pen Tool Tutorial

Photoshop’s pen tool is very useful. Like Totep said, all college students should learn how to use it. It’s especially helpful when you need to make a chopsuey project look impressive. This quick-and-gritty tutorial is for beginners.

Disclaimers: The program I use is Photoshop CS4, so there may be slight variations between my commands/workspace and yours if you have another version. Also some of the terms I use are my own, not ‘Photoshop’s’. The tutorial covers only the bare-bone essentials, but it should get you started. Hope it helps!

  5. This drawing is dedicated to throbbing summer afternoons, melted ice cream, and days so hot, your hair and skin are one. I had mad fun with the colors and liquid bits.

It’s part of a set that I’m illustrating as a contribution to Stache Magazine. The theme is a secret for now. Be sure to check out their April issue so you can discover the rest of the set, as well as the works of other artists.
